Often walking hand-in-hand with controversy is the sensual female form, Russian born, Belgium based - artist Olga Gouskova certainly knows how to capture an audience with her paintings of beautiful and stylish women. Gouskova's women are sexy, melancholic and mysterious, with a powerful physical intensity and a subtleness of form. The paintings convey vibrations, memories, ambivalent feelings and deep emotion by means of the positions and expressions of the figures. Her contemporary approach to pose, dynamic composition and colour produces paintings that are modern, proud, vibrant and uniquely individual. When painting, Gouskova uses two different techniques. First she draws the body with sepia pencil to make it look almost real - warm and soft, giving it a feeling of physical intensity and a subtleness of form, outline and volume. For the rest of each painting she uses acrylic and all kinds of pens to draw lines and small decorative details.

"The Ione Citrin Collection of Visual Epiphanies", an exhibition by Ione Citrin will be showing at Salon Xia July 13th, 2010 to August 23rd, 2010. Los Angeles-based artist Ione Citrin spent many years of her life in front of the cameras for Hollywood Westerns, TV commercials and a prime-time ABC morning show The Prize Movie with Ione from 1967 to 1975. Based in Chicago, Ione was the kooky presenter of a mix of comedy, variety, game-show, fitness and phone call-in, spliced between heavily edited versions of old movies - often dressed in appropriate costumes, from Tarzan's Jane to surfer girl. Anyone who visits her exhibition of Landscapes/Cityscapes, on show at Gardens of the World from June 24th to August 1st, may be surprised to find that a serious contemporary artist has arisen, phoenix-like, from her entertainment career. A restless and searching artist, Ione explores as many different styles and mediums as she can. Not content to repeat herself, or settle into a personal practice, she uses a lifetime of travel and experience as an endless source of inspiration. "I have constant visions and ideas for projects that are never ending. If I live to be 300 years old, I'll never complete my 'do' list". Ione exhibits in galleries throughout the country, and has won many awards for her work. Does she see any parallels between her artistic career and her entertainment persona? "My artistic career is definitely a part of myself, as was my performing career. It was the fickle finger of fate which directed me to perform first, but my instincts are the same for both expressions. If I could visualize the script, I could do the character. Now I visualize the whole scene and am able to produce my ideas as paintings and sculptures in many different mediums". Date: July 13th, 2010 to August 23rd, 2010 Open Tuesdays - Saturdays

"Windowed Wall," one of my newest night photographs, was juried into this year's "Glimpses in Time" exhibit at the Joyce Gordon Gallery. The exhibit opens Friday and runs through July 30. As always, it features dozens of photographs from artists across the U.S. and around the world, so there will be plenty of fantastic photography to see (and collect). My work has been juried into all four annual "Glimpses in Time" exhibits. The juror this time around was Linda Connor, professor of photography at the SF Art Institute. I hope to see you at the free reception. Refreshments will be served. The Joyce Gordon Gallery is at 406 14th Street (at Broadway) in Downtown Oakland, steps from the 12th Street BART station. I hope to see you, your coworkers, your family, and your friends at the reception, so please forward this email to them or share it with your social network. Thanks for reading, for spreading the word about my art, and for your continued support. --John

The Red Bluff Art Gallery is a unique art gallery in Tehama County, Northern California.
Set up and run by working artists, it is a coopertative gallery that offers art supplies, framing and giclee printing at a discount for its membership.
Three new exhibits open each First Friday of the Month, including painting, animation and video as well as sculpture.
It is a challenge being run by and for artists - artist egos being what they are, but generally a lot of fun.
Profit? Well not in the first three years. We'll have to see how that develops!

I've been an artist of various kinds all my life. Started with painting and branched out from there. Now I'm coming full circle back to painting - but it's painting in the 21st century. Digital.
I find it's very like regular painting with gooey paints and brushes, and in other ways it's so different. When I want an effect, I just poke a button and find a list of effects to use. I find I have to know just what I want to do before I do it, however backing out and trying something else is easy too. The choices I can pick in color and fills is far beyond anything I could ever think of the old way. Also the "happy accident" leads down other unexpected roads that are fun to follow.
Even with my "older" eyesight, I can get into detail and noodle something forever. Detail runs in my DNA, I guess. I used to be a cartoonist in the animation business making films a frame at a time. Then I was a tapestry weaver making hangings a thread at a time. I've been a book binder for many years making a book a page at a time. Now I'm back to detail again. Making a picture a stroke at a time.
What I find most intriguing is the blending and shading in digital. It's both difficult and exciting when just the right surface comes forth. Of course I couldn't do it at all without my Wacom pen. Painting with a mouse is like using a bar of soap.
As in regular old painting, one has to know WHEN TO STOP! I studied painting many many years ago with some really hot shot painters, and that's the one thing I learned about painting: know when to stop!
So I shall. by WORLDSCAPES paintings

Missed keeping my blog up to date because of health problems, but now I am back in the real world.
It has been a productive week in spite of the hurricane-like conditions. Liz Cohen, President of hob-art cooperative gallery, has secured our first empty storefront windows to be filled by a member artist. We were interviewed by a local newspaper reporter and our Council members are in line for a photo op, cutting a ribbon on opening day. More details to follow on this activity.
I spent the morning touring the Monroe Art Center in Hoboken, NJ in order to pick out a wall to hang my artwork during next weekend's Digable Art Festival. All day Saturday and Sunday, there will be visual arts, crafts, theater, and more, plus music and dancing all night on Saturday evening.

Digital Photography has made it easier to share pictures worldwide. I enjoy surfing the websites which bring to life the 19th century when Photography was born. The history of the early processes and techniques is fascinating and has its following even today!
The results are visible in the sharp, beautifully toned photographs of the late 19th century Masters of Photography. The latest addition to this treasure is a website which focuses on the work of Lala Deen Dayal, eminent Indian photographer who lived in the second half of the 19th century. Those who share my interests would love to surf through my new website, http://www.historic-photographs.com and discover for themsselves the unique visuals of early Photography in India.

HOB'ART SHOW CELEBRATES LOCAL ARTISTS
Thursday, December 31, 2009
By MARIAM AYAD
WW STAFF WRITER
Photography, paintings, mixed media and other artwork are on exhibit as the hob'art Cooperative Gallery continues its Holiday Exhibition at Eureka Market Art Gallery at 259 First St. in Hoboken until Jan. 10.
Hob'art's mission is to give the community exposure to local New Jersey artists, although some of the artists in the group are from Manhattan. Hob'art is eight years old and hopes to find a permanent home in which to showcase members' work. In the meantime, it leases space.
Hob'art member Roslyn Rose has a unique passion: combining decades-old photographs with her own, more recent ones. She calls her creations "photographic montages." One of her works at the Holiday Exhibition has an old photo cutout of a building labeled "Here to Eternity," which was a museum dedicated to Frank Sinatra. The building is contrasted by one of Rose's more recent color photos in the background.
Rose started her mixed photo creations after she found some old family photos, like one of her mother's wedding. When friends and family learned of her new artwork, they began sending Rose old photos from their families. Rose usually cuts out the people from the older photos and places her full-color photographer in the background to complement the work.
"The earliest photos I have are studio photos, and people are very stiff and grim," Rose said. "I've taken those and put them against an elaborate background."
Liz Cohen, hob'art president, also has some of her work displayed at the exhibit. Her photographs are part of a series she did with her childhood doll. The particular series at the exhibit are of the doll set in a local Hoboken background, like on the brick walkway on Court Street.
Other featured pieces include oil paintings on paper or canvas, mixed-media piece - one made with pacemakers on wood - glass paintings, linocuts and others.
Because of Eureka Gallery's large rooms, hob'art is able to display more work than in past years' Holiday Exhibitions. Hob'art members won't be able to enjoy the gallery for long. Eureka Gallery, and other buildings adjacent to it, have been sold. by Roslyn Rose

There are only 2 week left in 2009 and we are coming to the end of a very productive year. This year was full of exploring different styles and techniques. One of the things I discovered is my love of fretwork and the intricate designs of different eras such as "Victorian", "Art Nouveau" , and the "Art and Craft" movement. I love the swirls and nature oriented details of many of the fabrics, interior furniture & accessories and fine art of those times. All of these wonderful areas of style and creativity has influence my style as well and "Victorian Bloom" is just one of those pieces that show that influence. I loved working in copper and I love combining different styles of chain. The lampwork beads in this piece were just that added something which was needed to pull this design all together. These types of pieces make me look forward to what coming in 2010. Well here is this weeks entry "Victorian Bloom" Enjoy
Take Care and Keep Creating!!!!
