Ex·u·ber·ance ( g-z b r- ns): An overflowing amount; an outburst; an abundance! All describe the works of America Martin! We are pleased to announce America's third solo exhibition with amazing new works of pure joy! America Martin is a Colombian-American fine artist based in Los Angeles. She is a traveler between mediums, insouciant in the conquest of new terrain. Martin's favorite landscape is that of the human form, her work is distinguished by a command of line and color, making playful reference to both classic and indigenous art forms.

Lyons Wier Gallery is pleased to present Resourced, an exhibition of eight contemporary artists who use photography to create and sometimes inspire their art making. Each artist appropriates certain aspects and assets afforded by the camera, creating work that is referential but independent in spirit. The featured artists are: Ryan Bradley, Mary Henderson, David Lyle, Tim Okamura, Fahamu Pecou, James Rieck, Aristides Ruiz, and Cayce Zavaglia. Resourced presents a contemporary look at the influences and inspiration borne from the platforms of photography, ranging from found vernacular photography to self-portraiture. Collectively, the exhibition reveals the inexhaustible possibilities of how an artist can appropriate and re-contextualize a photographic image into a distinct conceptual perspective through various other media.

Lyons Wier Gallery is pleased to feature a special installation in the back gallery space by New York artist Greg Haberny entitled Mommy's Little Monster. The presentation is a prelude to his forthcoming solo exhibition at Lyons Wier Gallery this October. Mommy's Little Monster is a psychedelic glimpse into the wonderfully psychotic world of installation artist Greg Haberny. This particular installation draws direct inspiration from the artist's personal recollections of his childhood. The artist exhumes and examines his "'dysfunctional'" childhood, embracing the plethora of influences from his teen years growing up in suburbia during the 1970-80s.

SURFLAND-Joni Sternbach SurfLand is an ongoing project of contemporary portraits of surfers created using the historic wet-plate collodion process. "The series of work, entitled 'Fluidrive' is focused on the use of ritual. I am interested in a lyric image that can be revisited by the viewer in the way one re-visits the feelings created in a song or prose. The daguerreotype is kind of a reliquary that you can hold in your hands and use like a prayer box. The fact that these "mirrors" last forever and have the ability to render subjects almost as a hologram puts us in a discussion with our own memories." --Curtis Wehrfritz

New art exhibition VISIONS AND HORIZONS opens January 12 with an artist reception 6-8pm. Three new artists to lead the latest show at Los Angeles art gallery Artspace Warehouse: Los Angeles artists Steven Michael O'Connor, Deborah Lynn Imas, Barbara Kolo and Gill Miller. Attention-grabbing depths, endless horizons and bold colors are at the center of the new show VISIONS AND HORIZONS opening January 12 with an artist reception 6-8pm. Steven Michael O'Connor's Driptronics Series is a fine art graffiti experiment. It's a result of attempting to create an abstraction of wall writing while blurring the line between the gallery walls and the blank canvas of the streets. These particular pieces are inspired by terms referring to coins...which can be seen as nothing more than sculpted metal with an assigned value. Creating something beautiful that people appreciate has value. Deborah Lynn Imas is interested in both abstract and figurative forms and how they interact. These forms so

The Alegre Sarfaty Collection of Contemporary Art is pleased to announce "Highlights", an exhibition of four selected artists from their private collection. These four artists - Cory Arcangel, Matias Faldbakken, Andreas Slominski and Ryan Gander - all challenge the idea of space and perception through abstract forms. This collection offers a dynamic and diverse insight to how we as the viewer perceive art in both the space of a gallery as well as in its different art mediums. Come and explore the notions of the gallery space and challenge the traditional ways in which we see art within it.

I am presently working on creating more of mandala images by digitally enhancing my photographs of natural elements. Here is one sample of my work from this series.

Amazingly, the year is almost over. I am involved with filling out paperwork for 2011 exhibits. It has been a very busy year, both personally and professionally. The highlight was my October solo exhibition at Ceres Gallery in New York City. The opening was listed on the National Arts Month website. The attached picture, Playground, was shown at Ceres Gallery.
I was represented in some great national and state group shows and won a few nice awards; worked with my webmaster, Joe Corrado, to produce a new website; and survived some health problems. In October my work was part of five art venues during the Annual Jersey City Art Tour, including hob'art and Pro Arts gallery exhibits.
During the past year, I was again occupied with Hoboken's hob'art cooperative gallery meetings, shows, and Public Relations. The local news media was especially generous with reports about our group and solo member presentations. Our first Windows on Washington exhibits were held in a lovely empty storefront at 716 Washington Street. A third art happening in the same venue should be open to the public before the end of 2010.
As part of the Board of the Hoboken Arts & Industries Council, I was encouraged by our Mayor's support and the feedback from the company working on the city's Master Plan. Maybe we will get an art district and we will save the few old factory buildings for studios for the remaining artists and artisans in Hoboken, NJ.
I have great hope for the arts in 2011. by Roslyn Rose

When someone mentions batteries, we often think of common flashlight batteries or batteries for the numerous remote controls in our house used for everything from dimming our lights to adjusting the speed of our ceiling fans. If you look a little deeper, you will find that batteries are used everywhere out of plain site. Many times understanding the past gives us a perspective on how long batteries have been used. Looking back at the history of batteries, the earliest suspected batteries known may date back 2000 or more years. The “Bagdad Battery†due to the geographical area of it’s discovery or sometimes referred to as the Parthian Battery is made from a terracotta jar a copper cylinder and an iron rod, thought to be bathed in a mild acidic solution such as lemon or grape juice or vinegar to generate an electrical current perhaps used to electroplate gold onto silver objects in ancient cultures. Modern day battery technology dates back about 200 years with advancements in battery technology being driven by the devices using electrical power, telegraph, mining operations, NASA for the space program and more recently personal electronics; cell phones and i-pods.
The general principal of a battery is to store power and have a controlled discharged of the power at a time and place where it is needed. The principal of this is really taken for granted in today’s society. Think of all the places batteries are now used and most of the time taken for granted; cell phones, toys, I-pods, Kindles, not to mention the emergency equipment in buildings; emergency lights, exit signs, smoke detectors, fire and security alarm systems and the list goes on and on. The advancement in today’s battery technology is being driven by the search for smaller and more powerful batteries for personal electronics devices, electric cars, and medical equipment and much more, allowing people to work on laptops longer, become more mobile with new medical devices and cell phones. Battery technology also lends itself to work with a new generation of LED lights which allow smaller and longer lasting flashlights, and other portable devices which need less power due to the lower wattage draw of energy efficient LED diodes.
The point is that batteries are used everywhere. They key is in using the most energy efficient batteries when you have the choice. Frontier Lighting can provide you with all the power you need!
Frontier Lighting is a Florida based wholesale lighting distributor. Since 1987 we have been providing Clearwater, Tampa, Lakeland, Orlando, Bradenton, Sarasota, Ft Myers Naples and Marco Island with quality lighting products and free daily delivery to commercial, industrial, hotels and restaurants. We can provide you with all types of batteries, regular alkaline or long life and rechargeable “flashlight†type batteries used in flashlights, remote controls, radios, children’s toys, smoke detectors, industrial tools and inspection devices and the larger sealed lead acid rechargeable (SLA) and Ni-cad, (short for nickel cadmium) batteries used in the emergency equipment in buildings such as emergency lights and exit signs, security systems, computer UPS systems. Frontier Lighting can provide you with the power you need to keep your devices up and running. by Fort Myers Lighting

The Red Bluff Art Gallery is a unique art gallery in Tehama County, Northern California.
Set up and run by working artists, it is a coopertative gallery that offers art supplies, framing and giclee printing at a discount for its membership.
Three new exhibits open each First Friday of the Month, including painting, animation and video as well as sculpture.
It is a challenge being run by and for artists - artist egos being what they are, but generally a lot of fun.
Profit? Well not in the first three years. We'll have to see how that develops!

I've been an artist of various kinds all my life. Started with painting and branched out from there. Now I'm coming full circle back to painting - but it's painting in the 21st century. Digital.
I find it's very like regular painting with gooey paints and brushes, and in other ways it's so different. When I want an effect, I just poke a button and find a list of effects to use. I find I have to know just what I want to do before I do it, however backing out and trying something else is easy too. The choices I can pick in color and fills is far beyond anything I could ever think of the old way. Also the "happy accident" leads down other unexpected roads that are fun to follow.
Even with my "older" eyesight, I can get into detail and noodle something forever. Detail runs in my DNA, I guess. I used to be a cartoonist in the animation business making films a frame at a time. Then I was a tapestry weaver making hangings a thread at a time. I've been a book binder for many years making a book a page at a time. Now I'm back to detail again. Making a picture a stroke at a time.
What I find most intriguing is the blending and shading in digital. It's both difficult and exciting when just the right surface comes forth. Of course I couldn't do it at all without my Wacom pen. Painting with a mouse is like using a bar of soap.
As in regular old painting, one has to know WHEN TO STOP! I studied painting many many years ago with some really hot shot painters, and that's the one thing I learned about painting: know when to stop!
So I shall. by WORLDSCAPES paintings

Missed keeping my blog up to date because of health problems, but now I am back in the real world.
It has been a productive week in spite of the hurricane-like conditions. Liz Cohen, President of hob-art cooperative gallery, has secured our first empty storefront windows to be filled by a member artist. We were interviewed by a local newspaper reporter and our Council members are in line for a photo op, cutting a ribbon on opening day. More details to follow on this activity.
I spent the morning touring the Monroe Art Center in Hoboken, NJ in order to pick out a wall to hang my artwork during next weekend's Digable Art Festival. All day Saturday and Sunday, there will be visual arts, crafts, theater, and more, plus music and dancing all night on Saturday evening.

Digital Photography has made it easier to share pictures worldwide. I enjoy surfing the websites which bring to life the 19th century when Photography was born. The history of the early processes and techniques is fascinating and has its following even today!
The results are visible in the sharp, beautifully toned photographs of the late 19th century Masters of Photography. The latest addition to this treasure is a website which focuses on the work of Lala Deen Dayal, eminent Indian photographer who lived in the second half of the 19th century. Those who share my interests would love to surf through my new website, http://www.historic-photographs.com and discover for themsselves the unique visuals of early Photography in India.

HOB'ART SHOW CELEBRATES LOCAL ARTISTS
Thursday, December 31, 2009
By MARIAM AYAD
WW STAFF WRITER
Photography, paintings, mixed media and other artwork are on exhibit as the hob'art Cooperative Gallery continues its Holiday Exhibition at Eureka Market Art Gallery at 259 First St. in Hoboken until Jan. 10.
Hob'art's mission is to give the community exposure to local New Jersey artists, although some of the artists in the group are from Manhattan. Hob'art is eight years old and hopes to find a permanent home in which to showcase members' work. In the meantime, it leases space.
Hob'art member Roslyn Rose has a unique passion: combining decades-old photographs with her own, more recent ones. She calls her creations "photographic montages." One of her works at the Holiday Exhibition has an old photo cutout of a building labeled "Here to Eternity," which was a museum dedicated to Frank Sinatra. The building is contrasted by one of Rose's more recent color photos in the background.
Rose started her mixed photo creations after she found some old family photos, like one of her mother's wedding. When friends and family learned of her new artwork, they began sending Rose old photos from their families. Rose usually cuts out the people from the older photos and places her full-color photographer in the background to complement the work.
"The earliest photos I have are studio photos, and people are very stiff and grim," Rose said. "I've taken those and put them against an elaborate background."
Liz Cohen, hob'art president, also has some of her work displayed at the exhibit. Her photographs are part of a series she did with her childhood doll. The particular series at the exhibit are of the doll set in a local Hoboken background, like on the brick walkway on Court Street.
Other featured pieces include oil paintings on paper or canvas, mixed-media piece - one made with pacemakers on wood - glass paintings, linocuts and others.
Because of Eureka Gallery's large rooms, hob'art is able to display more work than in past years' Holiday Exhibitions. Hob'art members won't be able to enjoy the gallery for long. Eureka Gallery, and other buildings adjacent to it, have been sold. by Roslyn Rose

There are only 2 week left in 2009 and we are coming to the end of a very productive year. This year was full of exploring different styles and techniques. One of the things I discovered is my love of fretwork and the intricate designs of different eras such as "Victorian", "Art Nouveau" , and the "Art and Craft" movement. I love the swirls and nature oriented details of many of the fabrics, interior furniture & accessories and fine art of those times. All of these wonderful areas of style and creativity has influence my style as well and "Victorian Bloom" is just one of those pieces that show that influence. I loved working in copper and I love combining different styles of chain. The lampwork beads in this piece were just that added something which was needed to pull this design all together. These types of pieces make me look forward to what coming in 2010. Well here is this weeks entry "Victorian Bloom" Enjoy
Take Care and Keep Creating!!!!
